Currently, there are many OTC products, but most do not have sufficient scientific data/ evidence to support the clinical efficacy of those products. The presentation will emphasize the chemical composition of mouthwashes, the role of active ingredients of mouthwashes, and how to make a learned choice of over-the-counter mouthwashes products. Furthermore, the therapeutic and preventive role of mouthwashes will be highlighted. Home care messages regarding the therapeutic, adjunctive, and preventive role of mouthwashes for dental professionals and patients will be presented.
