The use of digital intraoral scanning for full-arch implant cases has become common, often advertised as a faster and more accurate alternative to traditional methods. However, questions remain about its clinical reliability, especially in capturing implant positions and occlusal relationships. This lecture reviews the current evidence supporting full-arch scanning protocols, with an emphasis on the role of extraoral photogrammetry and various scan body designs in enhancing accuracy. It will also discuss strategies for digitally recording centric relation and occlusion, providing a critical view of what is supported by science versus what is driven by hype.

This presentation further explores how combining Scan Ladder with Medit SmartX achieves exceptional accuracy in full-arch digital implant workflows. Focusing on All-on-X protocols, we will show how the patented randomised geometry of Scan Ladder scan bodies, along with Medit’s AI-driven SmartX library matching, simplifies scanning, increases digital precision, and decreases clinical and lab errors. Clinical cases, technical setup, and CAD matching strategies will be included.
